Dr. Vael Gates is interested in AI researchers' perceptions of AI, current and future. During their postdoctoral fellowship year at CISAC and HAI, Dr. Gates interviewed AI researchers, the results of which can be viewed here: Dr. Gates received their Ph.D. in Neuroscience (Computational Cognitive Science) from UC Berkeley in 2021. During their Ph.D., they worked on formalizing and testing computational cognitive models of social collaboration. Dr. Gates’s Ph.D. advisor was Tom Griffiths at Princeton University. They also completed research affiliated with the Center for Human-Compatible AI (CHAI) at UC Berkeley.
