Biography

Robert Schuett is the 2025–26 Fulbright-Botstiber Visiting Professor of Austrian-American Studies at Stanford University. A career civil servant currently on leave from the Austrian government, he has held senior analytical and leadership roles across Austria’s national security institutions, including at the Office of the President of the Republic of Austria.

His research focuses on national and international security, transatlantic relations, and questions of international order. Bridging practitioner experience and political theory, his work also develops a theoretical framework for understanding intelligence as a political practice within international society.

Dr. Schuett serves as Chair of the Austrian Political Science Association and is an Honorary Fellow at Durham University. He also teaches regularly at the Diplomatic Academy Vienna. His book Hans Kelsen’s Political Realism was translated into Spanish in 2025.
