For years, San Francisco has faced tough questions about the safety of two former naval bases that were poisoned with radioactive substances and now are being developed into two of the city’s largest housing projects. In response, the city Public Health Department has repeatedly given the same answer, telling people there’s nothing to worry about.
Proof, it said, was delivered from the sky.
